Perch fishing is most productive during the spring (March to May) as they start feeding more heavily. The water temperature is rising, and perch are generally found in shallow waters, making them easier to target.
Autumn (September to November) is also a great time to catch perch as they are feeding heavily to build up reserves for the winter.
Common Baits
Worms: Redworms are a great option for perch, as they offer a slightly smaller size that can be ideal for targeting smaller perch or when using lighter tackle.
Spinners: Small spinners can imitate a distressed fish and entice a perch to bite. They are especially useful in murky water or when the fish are not actively hunting.
Sweetcorn: Sweetcorn is an effective bait, particularly for smaller perch. It’s often used when targeting perch in colder months, when they tend to be more cautious.
Cheese: Some anglers use small pieces of strong cheese to attract perch.
Fishing Techniques

Night fishing for perch can be a rewarding experience as perch are often more active during the darker hours. During the night, perch tend to feed closer to the shore, making them easier to target, and they are less wary of anglers. Anglers should make sure they have warm clothing and a dependable light source.
